Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is an Indonesia national park belonging to the administrative area of 4 districts in East Java Province, namely Pasuruan District, Malang District, Lumajang District, and Probolinggo District. Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has a stretch of West to East about 20-30 kilometers and North to South about 40 kilometers. Since 1982, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park has a total area of about 50,276.3 hectares. In the area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, there is a caldera of sand of ± 6,290 ha. The caldera’s boundary is a steep wall with an altitude ± 200-700 meters.

Before being designated as a national park, Tengger area is a forest area that serves as a nature reserve and forest tours. This forest area serves as a protected forest and production forest. The World Park Congress proposed the Bromo Tengger Semeru area as a national park in a meeting held in Denpasar, Bali, on October 14, 1982. This is based on the consideration of its function and existence and the various ancient traditional potentials that need to be preserved. On November 12, 1992, the Government of Indonesia inaugurated the Bromo Tengger Semeru area into a national park.

With a height of about 750-3,676 masl, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is the highest plateau on the island of Java with Puncak Mahameru (3.676 m).
